American Heroes Challenge is committed to raising at least $1,000,000 in which all proceeds will be donated to the construction of a Veterans Memorial in Las Vegas, Nevada. To assist in making the Veterans Memorial a reality, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and the Las Vegas City Council have graciously donated Huntridge Circle Park dedicated to hosting the Veterans Memorial. The Veterans Memorial project, funded by the American Heroes Challenge, is just the first of many efforts designed to raise charitable contributions to benefit those who give so selflessly to making our country and communities safer.
Just recently, four finalists in the running for the design of the memorial made formal presentations to the Las Vegas community of their designs. The final chosen design will honor past, present and future veterans and their families. The four finalists are Joan Benefiel, Eugene Daub & Rob Firman, Cliff Garten, and Douwe Blumberg. Each of the artists is respected in their industry and has created veteran's memorials and artworks in other locales. In attendance at the unveiling of the proposed designs were Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese. The mayor stated "This is wonderful for our community, maybe for the world. This is a world-class project. It is an example for the rest of the world to see how we appreciate those who protect us." Once the work is completed, Goodman said that the city might redirect the annual Veterans Day Parade to pass by the site of the memorial.
